After graduating from NUS, Evelyn Tan signed up for the talent show “Star Search” in 1997 and made it into the top 20 talents of the show. For her excellent performance in the show, she was given the chance to join the Television Corporation of Singapore as an artiste. Just one year after her debut, Tan became widely acclaimed among teens and young adults for her role as a pure-hearted and kind teacher in the TV series “Tuition Fever”. Through her roles in TV series such as“My Teacher, Aiyoyo” and “A Place To Call Home”, she slowly cemented her place as one of the top female actors in Singapore during the 1990s.

In addition to acting, Evelyn can also sing professionally, having released two albums of her own that were produced by Mediacorp and Hype Records. In 1999, Tan collaborated with Dreamz FM to perform the National Day theme song “Together” at the 1999 Singapore National Day Parade.
